Epoxy Self-Leveling Flowability Testing Method
time:2025-10-11    clicks:170

I. Test Principle

The flowability test of epoxy self-leveling flooring uses a simple and practical flow test board (also known as an inclined test board) to evaluate the coating’s flow and leveling behavior on a sloped surface. During the test, a fixed amount of epoxy coating is poured onto the inclined board, and it is observed whether the coating can flow to the end of the board within a specified time to determine its flow performance.

II. Test Procedure

1. Prepare materials: flow test board, dropper, timer, epoxy self-leveling floor coating, etc.

2. Mark the test position and slope angle on the flow test board. Place the board on a horizontal surface and use an air pump to remove dust, ensuring the surface is clean.

3. Use a dropper to evenly drop the coating at the starting point of the inclined board. Observe its flow within a set time; the inclination angle is generally between 1% and 3%, and the observation time is about 15 minutes.

4. After the test, observe whether the flow lines of the coating are continuous and check for voids, wrinkles, or bubbles.

5. Evaluate the flowability of the floor coating based on the test results.

III. Precautions

1. Before testing, prepare the test board and epoxy self-leveling floor coating, and clean the board thoroughly.

2. During the test, control the slope angle and test duration carefully, and maintain constant temperature and humidity.

3. Test results should be evaluated comprehensively rather than based on a single factor.

4. If the results are unsatisfactory, adjust the construction process or select a more suitable floor coating to improve flowability.

IV. Importance of Flowability

In epoxy self-leveling floor construction, flowability is a critical performance indicator. Poor flowability can affect the appearance and durability of the flooring. A coating with good flowability will automatically level and smooth itself during application, producing a flat and glossy surface that is less prone to blistering and cracking. This improves both aesthetics and service life, while also facilitating cleaning and maintenance. Therefore, testing the flowability of epoxy self-leveling coatings is both necessary and important.
